These frames demonstrate collagen fibers encapsulating indwelling neural devices. Panel A and B quantify and visualize, respectively, that collagen fibers are only observed on the surface of the device, not in the surrounding parenchyma. Panel C shows fibers encircling the device as well as extending along the length of it.

Shape the future of hearing restoration by integrating outcome-oriented clinical investigations into current technology and the development of next-generation bioengineered neural interface implants.

  • Developing inner ear and brain living electrodes that can replace crude metal interfaces with physiological synapses
  • Interrogating neuronal population interplay during cochlear implant stimulation on a single neuron level
  • Developing new auditory stimulation strategies for existing implants based on back-end brain activity
